Downspout Repair & Extensions
A crushed elbow or a downspout dumping at the foundation undoes everything the gutters above it accomplish. It’s the cheapest fix in water management — and the most skipped.

Downspout repair calls trace to the joints and the bottom: crushed by mowers, separated by ice, or simply ending where the builder left them — six inches from your foundation. Every gallon they drop there works on your basement and crawlspace. Repair plus proper discharge routing is one visit and permanent.
What the Repair Involves
- Rebuild crushed or separated elbows and straps
- Resize or clear outlets where the gutter meets the drop
- Route discharge 4–6+ feet from the foundation — extensions, hinged flip-ups, or buried drain line
- Splash management where the grade fights us
- Flow-test the whole run from gutter to daylight

What It Costs
Most downspout repairs with extensions run $150–$500. Buried discharge lines to daylight are quoted by run length — typically $300–$900. Every roof is different — the photo comes first, the real number before we start, and no invoice surprises after.
Materials We Use
Heavy-gauge aluminum downspout and elbows matched to your profile, hinged extensions where mowing matters, and corrugated or PVC drain line with pop-up emitters for buried runs — sized for the inch-per-hour storms NWS Jackson (weather.gov/jkl) regularly logs in this corridor.
The tight clay soils through Lee and Powell counties don’t forgive foundation dumping — water sits, then finds your crawlspace. Discharge routing here isn’t optional; it’s the whole game. We answer calls from Beattyville, Slade, Stanton, Campton, Irvine, Booneville, Jackson, and the whole Red River Gorge corridor. Downspouts are the last leg of the roof-water system — the first leg is covered on our roof repair page.

Common Questions
How far should water discharge from the house?
Four to six feet minimum; more on flat clay. If a rainstorm leaves standing water within arm’s reach of the wall, the discharge isn’t done.
My downspout gurgles and overflows — clog?
Usually at the outlet or the first elbow, and occasionally a bird’s nest. Five-minute diagnosis, same-visit fix, and we check the run’s pitch while we’re there.
